SONGKRAN DRONE EXPERIENCE
THE TOURISM AUTHORITY of THAILAND Presents…
A way to see Thailand’s New Year Songkran festival like never before.
Songkran is Thailand’s New Year festival, or you might know it as Thailand’s water festival. Traditional Thai New Year takes place April 13th-15th, but in reality the whole week is taken over by a mass celebration and a momentous water fight. Wild scenes of exuberance can be seen throughout the Kingdom with music, dancing, and people drenched from head to toe.
However, Songkran it’s all fun and games. The most important of the ancient traditions of Songkran is the symbolic presence of water. In Thai culture, water is believed to purify the spirit, both cleansing the body of bad luck as well as blessing it with good fortune. During Songkran, locals pour water over Buddha statues for cleansing purposes, then collect this water and re-use it to bless village elders and family members by sprinkling it onto their shoulders.
We sent three YouTube stars to Thailand to experience Songkran firsthand, and tasked them with creating a video of their adventure using unique perspectives: by drone, with the LG G6 water-resistant phone, and of course their own equipment and creativity. See their videos below and vote on your favorite for the chance to win a GoPro Session camera! Read on to learn about all things Songkran!
Thanks to LG Mobile for supplying our crew with the new LG G6 water-resistant mobile phones so we could get right into the action of Songkran’s wild water festivities. Take The LG G6 almost anywhere thanks to its water and dust resistant design, and 5.7″ display that puts multi-tasking in the palm of your hand.
